The Correctional Service of Canada says a lockdown has been put in place in the minimum security unit at Dorchester Penitentiary.
Officials say the precautionary lockdown was put in place Thursday afternoon to ensure the safety of staff at the facility.
It says normal operations will resume once it’s considered safe to do so.
Officials say they’ll continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take appropriate measures but did not provide any other details.
