Longtime Kennebecasis Valley firefighter mourned

The Kennebecasis Valley Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Don Kearney died on Wednesday after a brief battle with cancer. He was 53 years old.

Kearney was a member of the fire department for more than 26 years, according to his obituary.

“Our thoughts are with Don’s family, friends, and fellow firefighters during this difficult time,” the department said in a social media post.

Several neighbouring fire departments have also taken to social media to share their condolences about his passing.

Kearney enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his cottage on the Kingston Peninsula, said his obituary.

He also cherished time on the water on his boat exploring the Saint John River.

Kearney was survived by his wife, two children and one grandchild.

Visitation and the funeral service will take place next week.
