Loud bang in Saint John result of refinery maintenance

What sounded like a loud explosion rocked parts of Saint John on Wednesday afternoon.

Social media users reported hearing a loud bang and feeling the earth shake shortly after 3 p.m.

The loud bang, as it turns out, came from the Irving Oil refinery on the east side of the city.

The company said maintenance activities on one of the refinery’s units resulted in a “loud noise.”

“We apologize for any concern this may have caused,” Irving Oil said in a Facebook post.
