There have been more explosions at the American Iron & Metal recycling facility on the lower west side of Saint John.
A message from Saint John EMO — posted on the city’s Facebook page — said fire crews were made aware of a “loud, contained explosion” which occurred in the company’s shredder around 11:20 a.m. Saturday.
Another explosion was heard coming from the same area about 10 minutes later.
Mayor Don Darling called Saturday morning’s incident a “large explosion” in a post on Twitter.
I can confirm, what you already know. There was another large explosion at AIM today at 11:20. We remain committed to finding solutions to this unacceptable situation.

It is not the first time there has been an explosion at the facility, located on the west side of Port Saint John.
At least one resident reported a “thump” coming from the facility on Thursday morning; there were also blasts in September and October.
Following a “significant explosion” on Sept. 14, Darling said he would ask provincial and federal officials for review and action.
Darling has said the city has no control over the facility, which is located on federally-owned land.
