Lower Coverdale Boy Named Grade Group Winner In Google Contest

The Doodle 4 Google national contest winner has been announced and although a Lower Coverdale boy didn’t win the top prize he’s still very excited to be a winner in the Grades 4 to 6 group category.

Nine-year-old Wesley Babin did win a trip to Toronto and a tour of Google with his family, a Chromebook and a $5,000 technology grant for his school, St. Bernadette.

Under the title “A Mechanical Canada”, Wesley created a sculpture as his doodle and used crazy glue to stick together materials like metals, sprockets and gears that he found in his parent’s basement.

“It took like two or three hours to build. Before I had another idea for it but it didn’t really work so I just built my thing,” he explains.

Wesley says he loves robots and loves to build things and got the idea from watching the Discovery Channel.

Wesley Babin will have his creation featured in the online Doodle 4 Google gallery.

Ontario Grade 11 student Jana Sofia Panem won the top prize will have her doodle featured on the Google.ca homepage on June 14th.
