Retired Saint John broadcaster Gary MacDonald will need to clear some shelf space this spring for new hardware.
Next month, he will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Radio Television Digital News Association of Canada–the association’s highest honour.
As for 21st century journalism, MacDonald says he believes we will hit a point soon where society will realize the importance and relevance of journalism.
He says in the age of social media we are seeing people making wild statements and not fact-checking or verifying sources and things blow up but reporters provide that balance because they get it right the first time.
The late Allan Rowe of Global News in Halifax will also be honoured at the RTDNA regional awards ceremony on April 16th in Darmouth, Nova Scotia at the waterfront campus of the Nova Scotia Community College.
MacDonald retired late last year from Acadia Broadcasting where he most recently served as the Director of News and Public Affairs at the company’s head office in Saint John.
