Man Arrested After East Side Standoff

Police say a 38-year-old man has been arrested following a standoff in east Saint John.

Officers were called to a home on Jean Street shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Spokesperson Jim Hennessy said they were told a man was barricaded inside the home.

Hennessy said tactical officers negotiated with the man, who surrendered peacefully just after 7:30 p.m.

He said the man remains in custody and their investigation is ongoing.

The street was closed to traffic and residents were asked to stay in their homes while negotiations were ongoing, said Hennessy.
