Man arrested after Hampton break-in

A 36-year-old man has been arrested after a break, enter and theft in Hampton.

At approximately 5:21 p.m. on Nov. 26, Hampton RCMP responded to a report of a break-in at a residence on Robertson Road.

Police observed significant damage inside the residence as a result of the incident.

They determined the individual had fled the scene on foot toward the Castlewood Drive area.

When officers arrived in that area, they found the suspect being detained by bystanders.

“Although dangerous and not recommended, the quick action of bystanders enabled us to arrest the individual,” Sgt. Curtis McMann said in a statement. “Thanks to their actions, officers were able to respond quickly and ensure that the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.”

The man was later released from custody and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on March 18.
