Man arrested in Sussex after overnight emergency alert

A man is in custody after Mounties sent out an emergency alert following reports of gunfire in Sussex.

The alert was issued shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday after reports of shots fired near a business on Main Street.

“Residents of Sussex were asked to remain inside with doors locked, and others to avoid the area as there was an individual carrying a firearm with dangerous intent,” RCMP said in a news release.

One person received what RCMP said were believed to be serious but non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.

In the alert, Mounties said they were looking for a man who was around 19 years old.

Police said the suspect was arrested shortly after and the alert was cancelled around 3 a.m.

It is not clear if the man was carrying a gun when he was arrested and police did not immediately say what charges they were considering.
