Man Charged After Incident At Apartment Building

Police say a 31-year-old man is facing charges following a weekend incident at a St. Stephen apartment building.

RCMP said they and the St. Stephen Fire Department were called to a disturbance at an apartment building on Schoodic Street just before 6 a.m. Saturday.

“What is believed to be a flammable liquid was poured in the hallway of the building,” said the RCMP in a news release.

Police said the building was evacuated as a precaution and a man was later arrested by officers.

Joseph Davidson Sheldon Mallaley of Back Bay is charged with uttering threats, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and mischief causing actual danger to life.

During a court appearance Monday, Mallaley was sent for a five-day psychological evaluation. He is set to return to court Friday.
