Man charged in alleged Saint John assault

Saint John police say a 26-year-old man has been charged in connection with an uptown assault.

Emergency crews were called to the 100 block of Waterloo Street shortly before 2:30 p.m. Friday.

A 57-year-old man was found suffering from a head injury. He was treated at the scene by paramedics.

Police said the suspect left the scene in a black four-door car, which was located shortly after.

Officers took the suspect into custody after a short pursuit, according to the release.

He is charged with assault causing bodily harm, threats, impaired driving and driving while prohibited.

The man was released from custody on an undertaking and will appear in court in January.
