Man found dead at Saint John encampment

Saint John police are investigating a sudden death after a body was found at an encampment in the city.

Officers were called to an encampment near the Courtenay Bay Causeway and Crown Street just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

“On arrival, emergency personnel confirmed that the person was deceased,” police said in a news release on Wednesday.

The deceased, identified as 44-year-old Jamie Langille, was taken to the hospital, where an autopsy will be scheduled.

The death remains under investigation but police do not believe it was criminal in nature.

This is the second death at an encampment in Saint John in as many weeks.

A 58-year-old man, identified as John Surette, was found dead in a tent along Paradise Row on Sept. 14. That death was also not believed to be criminal in nature.
