A 33-year-old man is in hospital after falling down a steep embankment beside the Reversing Falls Bridge.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 9 a.m. Friday, according to Saint John police.

“The man reported that he had accidentally fallen down the embankment and had been there for a number of hours,” police said in a news release.

Police, firefighters, paramedics and members of the Canadian Coast Guard all responded to the scene.

The victim, who police say was conscious, was brought to an awaiting ambulance with help from a Coast Guard boat.

“The extent and seriousness of his injuries are currently unknown at this time,” said police.

Police were asking people to avoid the area and to expect delays. First responders cleared the scene before 11 a.m. Friday.
