Man rescued after falling into Nerepis River

A fisherman has been rescued after falling into the Nerepis River in Welsford, according to fire officials.

First responders were dispatched to a water rescue near the Quality Aggregates gravel pit shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday.

“Thankfully, the individual managed to reach higher ground on the rocks in the middle of the river to await help,” the Welsford Volunteer Fire Department said in a Facebook post.

A swift water rescue technician entered the “fast-moving current and challenging terrain” supported by a team based on shore, said the post.

“Despite being wet, exhausted, and nearing hypothermic, our team was able to bring him safely to shore and into the care of a waiting ambulance for medical assessment,” the department said.

RCMP and Ambulance NB also responded to the scene.
