Marijuana Hearing Moves To Legislature

The New Brunswick Medical Society remains wary about legalising marijuana because of the harm it can cause to brain development.

Medical Society President Dr. Lynn Murphy-Kaulbeck is a Maternal Foetal medicine specialist and is concerned about the use of marijuana by pregnant moms. Dr. Murphy-Kaulbeck warns T-H-C which is the active ingredient in marijuana that causes the high is absorbed and metabolised by the foetus.

The Public Health Association of New Brunswick and P-E-I supports the legal age of marijuana to be 19, believing the legal age should be uniform across the country.

The New Brunswick Association of Social Workers warns young people who are not quite 21 will resort to buying marijuana on the black market and when you do that, you don’t know what you’re smoking.
