Mayor Darling Defends The LGBTQ Community At Pride Flag Raising

A good turnout of people braving the scorching temps to hear the Mayor and other speaks at the 2018 Pride week flag raising at Saint John city hall.

Mayor Don Darling has been vocal in his support of the LGBTQ community and publicly criticized whoever did burnouts across Saint John’s two rainbow crosswalks both uptown and on the west side.

Darling says he doesn’t agree with people who make homophobic comments and then cloak them in opinion or religion.

“It’s still not acceptable to me. I’m a Christian man and I have to believe that if Jesus himself were here with us right now, He would hug and embrace everyone here and tell them he loved them.” Darling says.

Saint John hosts the first evening Pride parade in Atlantic Canada this Saturday night at 8:45 pm and the organizers say there is still time to get a float in
