Mayor Don Darling To Deliver State Of City In Near Future

Boldness is what mayor Don Darling will be going for in his upcoming state of the city address.

While there’s no firm date yet for the speech, Darling tells us he’s been practicing it for a while now and it will be delivered in conjuction with the Chamber in late April or early May.

Darling, who has been in the office of mayor for about 10 months now, says the last two or three addresses have been more bold in that they’ve been more direct that the path they’re on isn’t sustainable and we need a new deal for Saint John.

“We need to work out what that new deal looks like, and that’s important to me to speak as a mayor as a person, my views in terms of where we are, I think financially I remain incredibly concerned,” says Darling.

“It concerned me months ago when we started our priorities exercise that when I asked staff to get me all the relevant current data, in terms of where’s the state of the city, in terms of its growth and population and all of these numbers – it was very difficult for us.”

Darling says that it’s important to have really good measurements and data so we know how we’re progressing with our growth plans.
