“This is very disappointing news for our community.”
That word from St. Stephen Mayor Allan McEachern on the closure of Superior Tanks, which is situated in the St. Stephen Business Park.
In a statement, McEachern says, “We are very sad to hear that this closure leaves thirty-three people in our community unemployed. Since the announcement, we have been working on ways to support these employees and identifying employment opportunities and finding resources to help.”
McEachern says he is working with Future St Stephen, the Development Board, MLA John Ames, and MP Karen Ludwig, in providing a job fair as soon as possible.
He adds, “There are new opportunities on the horizon, and we are working hard to put those residents back to work and keep them home.”
Superior Tanks closed their doors in St. Stephen for good yesterday, without any previous warning to employees. Workers arrived at the facility at 6am yesterday morning, were handed envelopes, and were told they no longer had a job there.
