Mayor Seen As Criticising Police Chief

Whether he mean’t it as criticism of Police Chief Bill Reid, Mayor Mel Norton’s comments about what he would like to see in a new police chief is being viewed as such.

Norton says he wants the new police chief to get a better handle on controlling the police budget.

Norton says while public satisfaction with how city police officers do their job is extremely high, there has been a lack of confidence in the community in getting the police department’s budget under control.

There appears to be one less member of the Police Commission. Jonathon Franklin’s name is no longer on the Police Commission’s website as a member. He chaired the Police Commission last year and found himself at odds with the Mayor over the police budget.
