Medical Society Wants Legal Age To Buy Tobacco Raised

The New Brunswick Medical Society is suggesting the provincial government should move forward cautiously when it comes to the legal sale of marijuana next year.

The Medical Society believes marijuana should not be sold to young adults under the age of 25 but recognising that’s unrealistic, is willing to accept the age of 21 with another surprising recommendation to raise the age to legally buy tobacco to 21 for anyone born in the year 2000 or later.

The Medical Society also recommends if NB Liquor is chosen to be the legal supplier of marijuana, there should be no profit target set. The province is also being urged to be cautious when it speaks of the economic potential because there are societal costs to be weighed.
