Short track speed skating begins today and we already get to cheer on Canada’s first silver medal for 2026, thanks to New Brunswick’s, Courtney Sarault!

Canada captured its first silver medal with the mixed relay team of William Dandjinou, Felix Roussel, Courtney Sarault, and Kim Boutin. Italy claimed gold and Belgium took bronze.

Pink Suit Girl

Courtney Sarault is the daughter of former NHL player Yves Sarault and began skating at age seven. She became known as the “pink suit girl” thanks to the bright hot‑pink speed‑skating suit she insisted her parents have custom‑made for her. In fact, she still keeps some of that superstition; wearing the exact same earrings and pink scrunchie every time she races.

Sarault emerged as a top Canadian short‑track speed skater early in her career, winning multiple medals at the World Junior Championships. Transitioning to senior competition, she earned World Cup and world championship medals, finishing second overall at the 2021 World Championships. She made her Olympic debut at Beijing 2022 and was later named to Canada’s 2026 Olympic team.

The 25-year-old short track speed skater enjoys cooking and baking in her downtime and tries to play other sports in the offseason like rugby.
