The Menahqesk Centre at NBCC is now open to the public.
It took eight months for the aboriginal centre to be completed.
Imelda Perley is the Elder-in-Residence at UNB.
She says the centre gives everyone, not just aboriginals, a special space to learn in.
Perley says Saint John was originally called Menahqesk.
She says her elders spirts will live on through the aboriginal centre.
