Men’s world curling championship coming to Saint John in 2027

Big news for curling fans in the Port City was revealed Wednesday.

The BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will be hosted in the city in 2027.

World Curling and Curling Canada announced the tournament, bringing the best men’s curlers in the world together, will be at TD Station from March 27 to April 4, 2027.

World Curling’s head of competitions, Eeva Röthlisberger, said the organization was looking forward to coming back to Saint John.

“Previous events hosted there have been a major success,” she said in a press release. “And we are certain together we will produce a fantastic competition for the top men’s teams in the world.”

Curling Canada CEO Nolan Thiessen said it was a good-news day all around.

“The bid from Saint John was superb,” he said. “And based on that community’s support of major events in the past and support from the City of Saint John and Province of New Brunswick, we’re confident that the 2027 BKT World Men’s Curling Championship will be a major success on an off the ice.”

It will be the third time Saint John has hosted a World Curling event.

Most recently, the 2014 Ford World Women’s Curling Championship was in the city.

Prior to that, the World Men’s and World Women’s Championships were held in Saint John in 1999.

The 2027 tournament will be the first played under a newly announced 18-team format.
