Environment Canada continues to track a winter storm which could make weekend travel a bit tricky across parts of New Brunswick.
A mix of snow, rain, freezing rain and ice pellets is expected to push into the province on Saturday evening.
Meteorologist Jill Maepea says their biggest concern at this point is an area of freezing precipitation expected over central New Brunswick.
“It could be anywhere from Miramichi across over to Grand Falls, down to Fredericton, down through Moncton,” said Maepea. “Anywhere in that region, we are anticipating ice pellets and freezing rain.”
Maepea said southern areas of the province can expect a rain event, with up to 25 millimetres or more near the Fundy coast.
But it is a different story in northern regions of New Brunswick, where that rain is expected to fall as snow.
“Campbellton, Bathurst, through the Acadian Peninsula, and even over to the Edmundston area, we’re looking at generally possibly 20 to 30 centimetres of snow with this system,” said Maepea.
Strong winds will also be a concern with this storm, she said, with gusts possibly reaching 80 kilometres per hour along the fundy coast.
Conditions are expected to improve throughout the day Sunday, said Maepea.
