A family of five escaped injury after fire caused extensive damage to their home in west Saint John.

Fire crews were called to the home on Milford Road around 2 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Comeau says they managed to contain the fire, but there was extensive damage to the roof and attic area.

He says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
