That jug of milk at the store is going to cost you a little bit more as of Feb. 1.
The New Brunswick Farm Products Commission announced Tuesday the price of white milk will increase by three cents per litre.
In a news release, the commission said the adjustment is necessary due to increases to the production costs for dairy farmers on items such as purchased feed, machinery and equipment repairs, fuel and oil, custom work and hired labour.
“The price adjustment also covers an increase in costs borne by dairy processors, as is reflected by the increase in consumer and industrial indices,” said the commission.
Pricing under the School Milk Program, which has been in place since 1995, will remain unchanged for the current school year.
Dairy producers and processors subsidize the program by about $800,000 per year.
