Minimum Wage, Child Care Among Issues Organized Labour Wants Addressed

The New Brunswick Federation of Labour releasing a laundry list of issues they’d like to see addressed by the political parties during the provincial election campaign.

President Patrick Colford says one of those is minimum wage, telling us the current $10-an-hour is not enough for workers and their families to meet basic needs and be active in the economy. New Brunswick’s minimum wage is poised to soon be the lowest in the country, tied with the Northwest Territories.

Another issue they would like to see addressed is child care in the province, the state of which Colford describes as “pretty pathetic.” He says only 23-percent of New Brunswick children ages 12 and under have access to a regulated child care space.

First contract legislation, workplace health and safety & compensation along with fair taxation also on their list.
