“You could call it de-centralizing a service.”
That from Charlotte-Campobello MLA John Ames, who says the Roosevelt International Park on Campobello is planning on taking over the Visitor Information Centre site in the future. The fate of the VIC was finalized in the provincial government’s budget as a way to cut costs to the province.
Ames says, “It’s going to be an opportunity for people on the Island to showcase what they have, instead of showcasing what the province has. They may have more of a say than they may have in the past.”
Ames tells us, many times, going into the VIC, which is the first thing you see when entering Campobello, there would be plenty of information about attractions throughout New Brunswick, but not nessessarily a lot of information about the Island itself.
He adds we need to make the site so it is being utilized and functioning at its ideal purpose, which is boosting tourism for Campobello.
