MLA Says Politics Needs The Voices Of Women

A provincial Green MLA is encouraging more women to get politically involved.

Memramcook-Tantramar MLA Megan Mitton says political policies often leave out those whose voices are not at the table, “When we don’t have young people, when we don’t have mothers and when we don’t have women making decisions, that impacts what decisions are made.”

Mitton says the provincial legislature was originally built by men, for men, but despite being a challenge for women, it is worth it.

“We are humans that create these systems and that means we can change them. So we can make it more accommodating, make it more inclusive, for different people and have better outcomes. We find that policies do leave out people whose voices aren’t at the table,” Mitton says.

She adds, her advice applies not just provincially, but municipally as well.
