Moncton Woman Says Raising A Down-Syndrome Child Is A Gift

A Moncton woman who is raising a down syndrome child, says she wouldn’t have it any other way.

Sandra Blatt-Arsenault has four children in her family, and her youngest, Carly, who will turn 7 on April 1st, has down syndrome.

She says she wasn’t aware when she was pregnant, that their daughter had down syndrome, “For us, that was perfect, because I could love this little baby. We could love her and not have to worry about anything.”

Blatt-Arsenault likes to say that her daughter Carly has special abilities, like every other special person, “There are people who go to College to get degrees, who have Down Syndrome. They walk down the aisle to marry the love of their life, who have Down Syndrome. There is currently the first ever Supermodel of the World who has Down Syndrome.”

Blatt-Arsenault say Carly skates, dances, plays the piano, and Blatt-Arsenault says she is quite the skier.

She says, “If we would all just take the extra time to open our hearts, to see what others have for their special abilities, their special gifts, it would be a better world.”
