Monday Morning Sports For August 25th

St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford is out for the 2014 NFL season after tearing the A-C-L in his left knee during a preseason game against the Browns and Panthers quarterback Cam Newton suffered a fractured rib in losing to the Patriots.

In the Majors, the American League East leading Baltimore Orioles were swept by the Cubs, 2-1 but the Blue Jays failed to take advantage, losing 2-1 in 10 innings to Tampa Bay……The Yankees beat the White Sox in 10 innings 7-4 on a pinch hit homer by Brian McCann to move six games back of the O’s…..The Jays are 8 back…..The Red Sox lost their 8th in a row and were swept by Seattle 8-6.

In the West, the Los Angeles Angels regained first place with a 9-4 win over Oakland and lead the A’s by one game.

In the National League, the Washington Nationals rallied from five runs down to beat the San Francisco Giants 14-6.

Lena Petermann scored in the eighth minute of extra time to lead Germany to a 1-nil victory over Nigeria to claim the Under 20 Women’s World Cup in Montreal.
