Monday Morning Sports For July 27th

The Pan Am Games wrapped up with Canada winning 217 medals including 78 gold. Canada won gold in women’s softball, upsetting the U.S. 4-2…..Canada lost to the U.S. in the women’s baseball final 11-3 and won bronze in men’s volleyball.

A big trade in baseball with the Kansas City Royals acquiring pitcher Johnny Cuetto from the Cincinnati Reds in exchange for three minor league pitching prospects.

In the Majors, the Red Sox over Detroit 11-1 as David Ortiz hits two homers and drives in 7 runs…..The Yankees beat Minnesota 7-2 and now lead Toronto by 6 and a half games in the American League East as the Blue Jays lose to Seattle 6-5 in ten innings.

In the National League West, San Francisco is now just one game behind Los Angeles after the Giants edge Oakland 4-3 while the Dodgers drop their second straight to the Mets 3-2 in ten innings.

Pedro Martinez, who pitched for both the Expos and the Red Sox, was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame.

In New Brunswick Senior Baseball, the Saint John Alpines lost to the Moncton FisherCats 3-1.

At the Canadian Little League Intermediate tournament, Quebec remains in first with a record of 3 and 0 after blanking B-C 13-0. New Brunswick is 1 and 2.

The Saint John Wanderers won the Men’s Maritime Football title 36-29 over Halifax.

Jason Day of Australia won the Canadian Open in golf.

Chris Froome of Britain wins the Tour de France.
