Monday Morning Sports For March 21st

In the NHL, it was Calgary over Montreal 4-1….Pittsburgh won its sixth in a row, 6-2 over Washington….Minnesota got by Chicago in a shootout 3-2….Anaheim over Winnipeg in overtime 3-2…New Jersey edged Columbus 2-1….Colorado downed Edmonton 3-2 and San Jose shut out Arizona 3-0.

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin will miss three to four weeks with an Achilles tendon injury.

The Saint John Vitos captured the provincial major midget hockey title with a 4-1 win over the Moncton Flyers. The Vitos will now compete in the Atlantics that start March 31st in Newfoundland and then will be the host team for the Telus Cup at the Q-Plex from April 18th to the 24th.

The U-N-B Varsity Reds downed St. F-X 3-1 to win the men’s university hockey championship.

The Saint John Mill Rats wrapped up a four game road trip with a 3-1 record after dropping the final game in Windsor to the defending champion Windsor Express, 116-104 in overtime. Ricky Volcy hit two free throws with 4 seconds to force overtime.

In the NBA, DeMar DeRozan had 25 points as the Raptors beat the Orlando Magic 105-100 and trail Cleveland in the East by just one game. Elsewhere, it was Boston 120 Philadelphia 105….Dallas 132 Portland 120 (OT)……New Orleans 109 Los Angeles Clippers 105….Utah 94 Milwaukee 85 and Sacramento 88 New York 80.

They’re down to the sweet 16 in March Madness. In the largest last minute comeback ever in college basketball, Texas A & M advanced after overcoming a 12 point deficit in 33 seconds to defeat Northern Iowa in double overtime.
