Monday Morning Sports For March 9th

In the “Q”, Conor Garland got four points, including the game winner to lead the Moncton Wildcats to a 6-2 win over the Sea Dogs.

In Major Midget hockey, the Saint John Vitos rallied from two goals down to edge the Fredericton Canadiens 5-4 in their 8 point semi final. Fredericton still leads the series 6 points to 2.

In the NHL, Daniel Paille scored twice, including once short handed, and Brad Marchand also had a short handed goal to lift Boston to a 5-3 win over Detroit….. Derick Brassard scored 32 seconds into overtime and Cam Talbot made 29 saves for his fifth shutout of the season in the Rangers’ 1-0 win over Chicago…Ottawa blew a four goal lead but still got by Calgary 5-4 in a shootout….Edmonton lost to Carolina 7-4……It was New Jersey over Philadelphia 5-2 and Colorado edged Minnesota 3-2.

The Mill Rats lost 108-107 to the Island Storm in their National Basketball League Atlantic Division semi final and face elimination tomorrow night at Harbour Station.

In the NBA, the Raptors lost to Oklahoma City 108-104.

Team Canada’s John Morris defeated Northern Ontario’s Brad Jacobs 6-5 to win the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier.

Some big free agent signings in the NFL including Ndamukong Suh going from Detroit to Miami… Free safety Devin McCourty has agreed to stay with the Patriots…..Running back Frank Gore is leaving San Francisco for Philadelphia and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is leaving the Eagles for Kansas City.
