Morale On Police Department Described As “Great”

The new chair of the Saint John Police Commission says the Police Department faces several challenges over the next year. They include negotiating a new contract with the Police Union at a time when money is tight because tax revenue for the city is flat but Anne Marie Mullin doesn’t foresee the negotiations as being difficult.

Mullin describes police morale as being great with the rank and file telling her they’re happy with the job being done by Police Chief John Bates whom she describes as a policeman’s chief.

She wouldn’t comment on any fallout from testimony that was critical of police at the Oland murder trial and the request for a review of how the case was handled by the New Brunswick Police Commission. The request for the review has displeased the New Brunswick Police Association.
