Common Council passing the 20.5 million dollar General Capital Budget for this year which includes $4.1 million allocated for roads and $4.5 million for drainage.
Among other things the budget also includes 700 thousand dollars towards fixing up the City Market even though the total cost of the needed upgrades is over five million dollars.
Deputy Mayor Shelley Rinehart says over the years they’ve let the City Market, the Aquatic Centre and a number of other city assets deteriorate to the point that there’s a risk of losing them.
The budget passed with a 7-1 vote with Councillor Bill Farren voting against over just 700 thousand dollars being spent on the City Market which he calls pussyfooting around the edges.
