More than $58M to support climate projects in N.B.

More than $58 million will support 56 projects through the 2025-26 Climate Change Fund in New Brunswick.

The provincial government says the projects are aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions and helping communities adapt to climate change.

Environment and Climate Change Minister Gilles LePage said the funding will also encourage local solutions.

“We are committed to driving innovation and championing made-in-New Brunswick solutions to ensure our province is sustainable today and for generations to come,” LePage said in a government release.

The provincial government says the fund helps with a list of initiatives, such as reducing emissions and adapting to climate change.

It also supports energy efficiency programs for families with low incomes, public education, and research into new solutions.

It also supports the development of climate policy and the tracking of progress.

Officials say the fund is part of the provincial Climate Change Action Plan, which sets a target to reduce emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.

A list of the funded projects and the 2023-24 Climate Change Action Plan Progress Report are available online.

The report outlines achievements to date and ongoing work to address climate change across the province.
