More Weekend ER Closures In Sussex

Residents in the Sussex area will not have access to their local emergency department for part of the weekend.

Horizon Health said the temporary closures of the ER at the Sussex Health Centre are due to a nursing shortage.

The ER will close at 5:30 p.m. Friday and will be open from 7:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

“After 5:30 p.m. all patients and clients will need to seek treatment at another hospital,” said the release.

Regular 24-hour emergency department hours will resume on Monday at 7:30 a.m., the health authority said.

This is the fourth weekend in the past month or so that the health centre has experienced weekend closures.

Residents are urged to call 911, as always, if they are experiencing a medical emergency.

People with non-urgent medical needs can call Tele-Care 811 if they have questions about the type of medical attention they require or book a virtual appointment through eVisitNB.
