Most Cases of Suspected Senior Fraud Last Year Were Not Reported

In hopes of reducing the financial abuse and exploitation impacting New Brunswick seniors, Crime Stoppers and the Financial and Consumer Services Commission are teaming up to get the word out.

77 percent of suspected senior financial abuse cases went unreported last year.

Some of the reasons that seniors don’t report this type of activity are embarrassment, fear of what may happen or retaliation, loyalty to family and a hope to get their money back.

This abuse is very harmful to seniors because they are more likely to rely on investment income for day to day expenses.
