MP Wants Inquiry Into SNC-Lavalin Affair

A New Brunswick MP is calling for a full and transparent inquiry into the SNC-Lavalin affair.

Wayne Long, who represents Saint John-Rothesay, says the allegations of attempted political interference made by former attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould are deeply troubling.

Long says it is paramount to move forward and find out what happened in response to the allegations.

“Let’s be very clear, they are allegations only,” said Long, “but as an elected representative, I think it’s my duty to make sure Canadians get the answers they are looking for.”

Long says he is confident the House of Commons justice committee is addressing the matter and hearing from the proper witnesses.

The committee has already heard from several people, including Wilson-Raybould and Gerald Butts, the prime minister’s former principal secretary.

“Right now, there’s a cloud over our heads called SNC-Lavalin, and the way to let sunshine through is to have full openness, to hear from everybody,” Long said.

“I absolutely believe that we don’t have anything to hide, it’s just a matter of making sure all the facts are out.”

Long said once all of the facts are out, Canadians can decide what happened, who was right, and who was wrong.
