N.B. Boosts Spending On Roads, Infrastructure

New Brunswick will spend an additional $20 million on the province’s roads and infrastructure this year.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure’s ordinary budget this year is nearly $350 million, an increase of six per cent.

“We continue to be prudent with taxpayers’ money and invest strategically across the province and not just in one or two regions,” Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Jill Green said in a news release.

“This budget demonstrates our government’s commitment to making the necessary investments in our infrastructure.”

This year’s budget includes an extra $14 million for bridges and a $1-million increase for ferries.

The department’s brush-cutting program is also getting a $4-million boost this year.

Officials say the spending is on top of the department’s capital budget of $414 million.
