N.B. finance minister to re-offer in election

New Brunswick’s finance minister will re-offer as MLA for Moncton Northwest in the next election.

Ernie Steeves confirmed his intentions for the upcoming election in an interview with our newsroom.

“I will stay as long as Blaine Higgs is premier because I do believe in him. I think he’s been an outstanding premier,” said Steeves.

“He’s seen us through COVID, a pandemic, and he’s seen us through a recession, and he’s seen us through a number of hard times.

“I will stay as long as Premier Higgs is running and as long as he wants me.”

The announcement comes as several other Progressive Conservative MLAs have decided not to run again.

On Thursday, former cabinet minister Dorothy Shephard became the latest to say she would not re-offer.
