N.B. inmate dies in custody

A New Brunswick man charged with second-degree murder has died in the custody of the provincial correctional system.

Jean Martin Couture was found unresponsive in his cell at the Dalhousie Regional Correctional Centre on Monday.

The 48-year-old was taken to the Campbellton Regional Hospital, where he died on Thursday, according to the province.

“Local police and Coroner Services have been advised,” the Department of Justice said in a news release on Friday.

A coroner’s inquest will be held at a later date, “after all investigations have been concluded,” said the release.
