New Brunswick is looking to help ease the financial burden on families struggling with infertility.
The province has reaffirmed its $1.9-million commitment to support access to fertility treatments.
It will provide reimbursement for one round of in vitro fertilization treatment or intrauterine insemination per household.
“We want every New Brunswicker who wants to start a family to have that choice,” Premier Susan Holt said in a news release.
“Financial barriers shouldn’t stand in the way of making someone’s dream of starting a family come true.”
The Liberals government made the commitment in the lead-up to last year’s provincial election.
Infertility affects about one in six Canadians, and in vitro fertilization treatment can be costly and emotionally difficult.
“This investment helps ensure that cost is less of a barrier for people in New Brunswick who need fertility support,” Health Minister John Dornan said in the release.
