N.S. MP wants meeting with PM on lobster fishery

Nova Scotia’s only Conservative MP wants a meeting with the Prime Minister.

Chris d’Entremont of Acadie-Annapolis says the lobster fishery needs a sustainable path forward.

He’s requested a sit-down in a letter to Mark Carney to discuss the future of the lobster stock in the riding.

d’Entremont says unregulated and unreported fishing has been happening in St. Mary’s Bay for many summers.

He says some argue it’s under Indigenous rights, but it poses a threat to the sustainability of the stock.

He adds that DFO needs to focus on the issue by supporting fishery officers, laying charges and enforcing the fisheries act.
