The Saint John Police is proud to recognize the National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, observed April 12-18, 2026, a time dedicated to celebrating the invaluable service provided by our Public Safety Communications Centre (PSCC) operators.
The PSCC is a critical part of Saint John Police operations, providing 24-hour emergency and non-emergency call-taking and dispatch services seven days a week. Our telecommunicators play a vital role in public safety, ensuring officers and first responders receive timely, accurate information when it matters most.
Often referred to as the “first, first responders“, PSCC operators are the calm and steady voices at the other end of the line during some of the most difficult moments citizens may experience. Their ability to remain composed under pressure, combined with their expertise in managing complex and high-risk situations, is essential to the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency response services in our community.
In addition to serving the Saint John Police, the PSCC is a Public Safety Answering Point for New Brunswick, handling regional 911 calls from St. Stephen to Sussex. The PSCC also provides emergency and non-emergency call taking and dispatch services for the Saint John Fire Department and 31 additional fire departments throughout the region.
Members of the PSCC provide a vital link between the community, police, and fire services. Whether managing a high-stress emergency call or responding to a general inquiry, PSCC operators consistently demonstrate professionalism, compassion, and courtesy, all while gathering critical information to ensure the appropriate resources are dispatched.
“We are extremely proud of the tireless dedication and commitment of our operators as we recognize them this week. They are the voices that often bring light to the darkest situation.” Chief R.M. Bruce
Together a safe, secure, healthy community
