NB Power workers injured, threatened over rising bills: utility

Some New Brunswickers upset over high electricity bills are taking their frustrations out on NB Power workers.

The utility said there have been two “serious incidents” in the past week where workers were injured and physically intimated.

“These aren’t isolated incidents,” NB Power said in a series of social media posts on Thursday afternoon.

“Our teams are reporting an increase in physical threats and verbal assaults from some individuals – conduct that is completely unacceptable. No one should feel unsafe doing their job.”

NB Power said while it understands some people are frustrated with higher electricity costs, any form of violence or aggression toward employees will not be tolerated.

Customers with concerns about their bills or service are urged to express them “appropriately and respectfully.”
