New Brunswick Community College says it will adopt a mandatory student vaccination and/or masking and testing program.
It is the latest post-secondary institution in New Brunswick to implement such a policy to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“Several aspects of how we implement this will rely on protocols being developed by the Government of New Brunswick and Public Health,” Tanya Greer, spokesperson for NBCC, said in an email.
In the meantime, students and staff will have to wear community masks in all public spaces until operational plans are in place, said Greer.
She said they are moving forward with plans to host vaccination clinics at their campuses and are surveying the college community to get an idea of the current vaccination rate.
Meanwhile, NBCC will continue to deliver most of its programs through a combination of online and in-person.
“While NBCC has been able to have students on campus for blended academic delivery since May of 2020, the 2021-2022 academic year will allow for increased opportunities for in-person learning,” said Greer.
Students will be on campus between 40 and 80 per cent of the time during the fall term, depending on their program, she said.
