NBHC Releases Quarterly Progress Report Card On Provincial Health Plan

The New Brunswick Health Council says the provincial government is making progress on its health plan.

It released its first quarterly progress report this week, looking at the plan called, “Stabilizing Health Care: An Urgent Call to Action.”

The Plan includes 35 deliverables across five Action Areas: Access to Primary Health Care, Access to Surgery, Create a Connected System, Access to Addictions and Mental Health Services, and Support Seniors to Age in Place.

Council CEO Stephane Robichaud says in their report, they found eight are complete, 23 are in progress, and four have not yet started.

“They’ve had to mobilize resources and sort of shift their focus to do these initiatives. We can definitely see as of this end of summer and fall that there’s been an increased focus on these initiatives. Plus, as of now that they’ve repositioned, they put the right structures in place. There’s a learning opportunity that is before us for each of our health zones. We’re seeing that layer of discussion being initiated now and we hope that as we move into the new year, it will also mean being able to have information so the public can be much better informed, as to realities in each of their areas of the province,” Robichaud reports.

Moving forward, the NBHC will be providing quarterly progress updates on the deliverables under the five Action Areas. The Council will also be releasing additional contextual material, based on available data, about the Action Areas in order to provide citizens to give a picture of the current state of population health and health service quality in these areas. The first round of materials for release will focus on Access to Primary Health Care.
