The federal NDP has elected a new leader to replace Tom Mulcair. He’s Jagmeet Singh who was born in the Toronto suburb of Scarborough and raised in both St. John’s and Windsor, Ontario. He becomes the first visible minority to lead a federal party.
As he launches his campaign for prime minister, Singh lists his priorities as tackling tackle inequality, especially income inequality, pay equity, climate change, housing affordablility, reconciliation and electoral reform.
Singh made a special appeal to francophones and spoke out against the politics of fear and division.
